So here’s what I see happening.
NFC Championship: Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco 49’ers
So now it's set. The Swartz/Harbaugh Bowl.
Frank Gore ran for three second-half touchdowns, and the San Francisco 49ers rebounded from a 17-0 deficit against the Detroit Lions to take a 21-20 lead in the NFC Championship Game with 2:30 left on the clock. The winner of this game will represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. For the Lions, it will be the first since 1957 and the second longest drought in NFL history behind the Arizona Cardinals. David Akers missed an earlier extra point that would have the lions tied now. The Lions will get the ball back for a final drive. Stafford and Johnson have been the outstanding today with running back Reggie Bush gaining nearly 200 yards rushing. In the final drive the Lions moved the ball down to the 31 yard line of the 49’ers with one time out and 21 seconds on the clock; time for a winning field goal. Detroit special team take the field, 49’ers call time out to ice Akers. The team resets, holder Blake Clingan give the sign to long snapper Don Muhlbach as 10 year veteran. The snap, the kick…he miss it wide…he missed it wide…can you believe it! The Detroit Lions have just missed an opportunity to go to the super bowl in over 56 years…..
Today, the Detroit Lions cut Kickalicious from the roster. The YouTube sensation according to USA Today newspaper had no college experience. I don’t understand the gull of some of these teams. Either you can do the job or you can’t. In my opinion it doesn’t matter if you got college experience or not. Some of the coaches I’ve worked for were college players and they lacked people skills and management skills let alone running a football program. Those just happen to be the worst coaching experiences I’d ever had in my 25 years of coaching. But yet, they hire these guys because they “played” college football.
