Episode 1-14-2014 – Lions hire new head coach

Here is what is being said amongst the Lunch Gang on the new hire:

ManCave: Pro Football Talk just posted it…Lions hire Caldwell.

T-Mobile: Horrible choice – nuff said
OM: Yep. Just got the ESPN text
Mansel: Let me be the first to say: FIRE CALDWELL!!!!
Professor: Not sure I like this choice. They might as well have kept Schwartz at this point. They really need someone that can take advantage of the offensive talents. He’ll be gone in 3-4 years.
OM: Damn.. just read the blog posts on the link.. very telling
ManCave: The Ravens fans are thanking us for taking him.  So are the Bears and Packers fans.
With that said….here are some positives?
Coach: Nothing to say about this.
Professor: 76 days until Tigers Opening Day Game!
ManCave: This comment is good and true:  “…Damn you Tony Dungy and your crusade for this imbecile.”

OM: The Lions bus just got emptier.. and I think it needs a new transmission because it seems to be going in reverse.
Mansel: That’s a lot to fit on a sign…but I bet we can do it.
Professor: You can dislike the Coach and dislike the decision, but for God’s sake leave the Lions bus out of the discussion. It has been going since 1957!
OM: Maybe that is the problem.. Need a new bus.
Coach: The only reason the bus is still going is because it’s been headed downhill since 1957.
Mansel: I think this bus will do just fine. I’d rather waste my money here than inside Ford Field.
Professor:
T-Mobile: And the bus didn’t make it there yet?  That is a long way to HE!!
Coach: Info…
The following teams have never won a Super bowl. The ones with an asterisk haven't been to even a Super bowl
Cincinnati Bengals
Philadelphia Eagles
Minnesota Vikings
Buffalo Bills
San Diego Chargers
Atlanta Falcons
Tennessee Titans
Carolina Panthers
Seattle Seahawks
Arizona Cardinals
Cleveland Browns*
Jacksonville Jaguars*
Detroit Lions*
Houston Texans*
T-Mobile: All teams with asterisk were looking for head coach yesterday ---- one of the teams just got a coach that could easily keep them in the asterisk category!!
Mansel: Prophetic comment from the booty bus article on 11/24:
Sounds like another clean, safe place to visit in Detroit. If this bus really does better when the Lions aren't winning they should get ready for a profitable last month. The Lions are about ready to collapse.
ManCave: And for the record….as offensive coordinator this year…
“…Under Caldwell this season, the Ravens were 29th in total offense (307.4 yards a game) and 25th in scoring (20 points a game). Quarterback Joe Flacco, who Caldwell was brought in to mentor, threw more interceptions (22) than touchdowns (19) this season…”
Coach: So what you’re saying is we are going from the frying pan to the fire. Heaven help us.
Nestordamus: This guy’s resume is as good as Whisenhunt’s who yesterday was going to be the second coming of Belichek or Harbaugh until he went to the Titans. Coldwell came to Baltimore last season and was the OC for the team that only won the Super Bowl!!!! Give him a chance –  they haven’t played a single game yet !
ManCave: Nestor.  The Voice Of Lions Reason.
Coach: If Nestor is the voice of reason, let me be the voice of history (at least with internet help)…
